ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS 1.2.2008 " The globular cluster distributions in the Galaxy, M31 and M87: are many globulars disappeared to the galactic centres? " Abstract. The radial distribution of globular clusters in our Galaxy, M31 and M87 is studied and compared with that of halo stars. The globular cluster distributions seem significantly flatter than those of the stars bulge. Assuming this is a consequence of an evolution of the globular cluster distribution in these galaxies, a comparison with the (unevolved) stellar distribution allows us to obtain estimates of the number and total mass of clusters lost, which are possibly gone to feed the massive central objects present in these galaxies. It results that the cluster systems studied should have been initially about one third and one forth richer than now in our Galaxy and in M31, respectively, and twice as abundant in M87. The estimated mass of globular clusters lost is compatible with the galactic nucleus masses.

Have many globulars disappeared to the galactic centres ? The case
The radial distribution of globular clusters in our Galaxy, M 31 and M 87 is studied and compared with that of halo stars. The globular cluster distributions seem significantly flatter than those of the parent-galaxy stellar bulge. Assuming this is a consequence of an evolution of the globular cluster distribution in these galaxies, a comparison with the (unevolved) stellar distribution allows ...
متن کاملEvolution of globular cluster systems in three galaxies of the Fornax cluster
We studied and compared the radial profiles of globular clusters and of the stellar bulge component in three galaxies of the Fornax cluster observed with the WFPC2 of the HST. A careful comparative analysis of these distributions confirms that stars are more concentrated toward the galactic centres than globular clusters, in agreement with what was observed in many other galaxies. If the observ...
متن کاملSome Musings on Globular Cluster Systems
Globular cluster systems exhibit a bewildering variety of characteristics. No single scenario appears to be able to account for the wide range of specific globular cluster frequencies that are observed in galaxies of various types. The fraction of all star formation that produces massive bound clusters differs from galaxy to galaxy, and (in some cases) appears to vary with time. Presently avail...
متن کاملThe contribution of primordial globular clusters to the central galactic activity
Globular clusters in galaxies have a mutual feedback with the environment, which is tuned by their dynamical evolution. This feedback may be the explanation of various features of both the globular cluster system and the host galaxy. Relevant examples of these are the radial distribution of globulars and the violent initial activity of galaxies as AGN.
متن کاملFormation of Globular Clusters in Hierarchical Cosmology
We study the formation of globular clusters in a Milky Way-size galaxy using a high-resolution cosmological simulation. The clusters in our model form in the strongly baryon-dominated cores of supergiant molecular clouds in the gaseous disks of high-redshift galaxies. The properties of clusters are estimated using a physically-motivated subgrid model of the isothermal cloud collapse. The first ...
